Pop
While being used to describe any popular song, Pop as a genre came into its own with the popularization of the synthesizer in the 70s. Early acts to adopt the synthesizer like Peter Gabriel and Stevie Wonder paved the way for pop to take over the airwaves in the 80s with superstars like Madonna, Prince, and Michael Jackson. Running parallel was the new wave scene, which incorporated synthpop and rock elements to create a new sound that is still being imitated today. Much of the popular music today still ushers back to the 80s synthpop scene like Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, and The Weeknd, while forward-thinking experimentalists like Charli XCX and the late Sophie push the pop sound into new territory.
Tune in and listen to pop every day from 4 - 7 PM.
