Top-15 showdown awaits Auburn in Atlanta

ATLANTA —  No. 9 Auburn (22-10, 6-6) will travel to Atlanta to face off against No. 15 Georgia Tech (26-6) in a mid-week top-15 showdown. Tuesday’s game is sandwiched between two big home SEC series for the Tigers, but the game against the Yellow Jackets is just as important.

Auburn enters the game against Georgia Tech after a series win against Alabama this past weekend. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets enter Tuesday’s game after a sweep against Stanford. Both teams seem to be playing well as they enter the second week of April.

The probable starters for the matchup are freshman Christian Chatterton for Auburn and senior Sam Swygert for Georgia Tech. Chatterton has started multiple weekend series games for Auburn this year but did not pitch in this past weekend’s series against Alabama. He’ll look for a strong showing to get back into the weekend rotation mix.

Swgert for Georiga Tech enters with a 4.66 ERA and the Yellow Jackets as a team have an ERA of 4.0. Auburn’s offense comes in red hot, though, and will challenge Georgia Tech’s pitchers. The Tigers hit .341 over their last four games including four players hitting over .400 and four over .300.

On the flip side, Georgia Tech’s lineup is more than capable of challenging Auburn’s pitchers. The Yellow Jackets are second in the country in team batting average at .342. They are also top-five in the country in hits, runs, doubles, and slugging. Chatterton and Auburn will have their hands full.

Tuesday’s night game will be the first of four straight games against ranked opponents this week. Auburn is currently 8-6 against ranked opponents this season but is 3-4 away from home. Georgia Tech has won 20 of its last 24 and is 16-5 at home this season.

The top-15 matchup should be another great game between two teams who have a great history. Auburn leads the all-time series 125-113-6 and has won the last two in the series.

The first pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. CT and will air on the Auburn Sports Network and the ACC Network Extra.
