AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 11 Auburn Tigers topped the Mississippi State Bulldogs 14-8 Sunday to take game three and win the series, bringing their SEC record to 11-10 and securing their fifth series win in conference play.
Auburn got on the board early thanks to a pair of RBI from Ike Irish and Eric Guevara in the bottom of the first inning. Mississippi State answered, scoring a pair of second-inning runs on Tigers’ starter Cam Tilly.
Auburn responded by putting up six runs in the bottom half of the frame. A Deric Fabian sacrifice fly scored Cade Belyeu before a pair of home runs by standout freshman Chris Rembert and first baseman Cooper McMurray added five more to the Tigers’ total, giving them an 8-2 lead heading into the third.
The Bulldogs hit their first of three solo home runs in the third inning coming off the bat of Ace Reece as part of his two-homer day.
Auburn put up another big inning in the fourth, scoring three off a Lucas Steele two-RBI single and a Cade Belyeu sac fly. The Bulldogs would cut into Auburn’s 11-3 lead, scoring two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the seventh.
Steele and Fralick added to their RBI totals in the eighth, combining for three in the frame and stretching Auburn’s lead to 14-7.
Carson Myers pitched the eighth and the ninth for Auburn, allowing just one run and earning the win, his second of the year.
Every single Auburn Tiger in the lineup either touched the plate or drove in runs en route to their highest scoring game in SEC play. The series win takes Auburn’s record to 5-2 in SEC series and 11-10 in conference play. The Tigers will play Samford in the midweek before heading up to Knoxville for a series against a Tennessee team that currently sits at fourth in the SEC. Those games will be aired on the Auburn Sports Network.
