McCrary's grand slam walks off Georgia, Auburn wins second straight SEC series

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn won the first game of the series against 18th ranked Georgia on Friday night before falling on Saturday, leading to a Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry rubber match at Jane B. Moore Field Sunday afternoon. Georgia scored early, but late-game heroics from AnnaLea Adams and Icess Tresvik brought Auburn all the way back, as Auburn won their second straight series in SEC play, 8-4.

Auburn started Tresvik in the circle for game three of the series against Georgia after being roughed up in the first inning against UAB midweek. It was another rough outing for the senior from Wilmington, North Carolina. She walked Dallis Goodnight, who quickly stole second and was brought around by a Lyndi Ray Davis single to left. After a fielder's choice, another walk, and a couple of steals, Emily Digby brought home two more runs and ran Tresvik back to right field where she usually starts. Auburn struggled to find runners in the first couple of innings as Randi Roelling pitched the Tigers nine up, nine down in the first three home halves.

Auburn finally found a run in the bottom of the fifth as Amelia Lech took Roelling deep to right center. It was Lech’s first homer of SEC play and got the Tigers on the board. After a threatening top half from the Bulldogs, Auburn found a second in the bottom of the sixth, as a wild throw above the head of Esther White at first base allowed Nelia Peralta to come across.

After an insurance run from Georgia in the top half of the sixth, Auburn caught fire. Kylie Brockman singled through the left half of the infield before back-to-back walks loaded the bases for AnnaLea Adams, who slapped it into left and scored Rose Roach and Thalia Martin. Icess Tresvik walked to load the bases again, and KK McCrary, who walked off the Dawgs on Friday, took the 1-1 pitch deep and walked off Georgia with a grand slam over the wall in left.

The win went to Haley Rainey, her sixth of the season, for her performance out of the bullpen. Rainey went 3.2 innings and only allowed one run on four hits, striking out two and walking no batters. The big hits of the game came off the bats of Amelia Lech, who broke the ice with her homer in the fifth, and of course, KK McCrary, who hit the walk-off grand slam and second walk-off hit of the weekend.

Auburn is now 27-17 on the season with only a couple series left to play. Auburn heads to play the Lady Vols of Tennessee on Rocky Top in a three-game set this weekend. You can listen to all three games in Knoxville right here on WEGL 91.1 and the Auburn Sports Network.
