Auburn wins Malveaux Mania in walkoff fashion

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn overcame Georgia 11-10 in the series opener in a back-and-forth affair with runs plenty for both sides. With a total of 21 runs the teams combined for seven long balls making the high-scoring affair an entertaining one. After a short rain delay, both teams finished the game from the bottom of the fifth, but the rain did not cool off the bats in this one.

The Tiger offense was flying, and Auburn's bats were not quitting at the plate, retaking the lead more than three times on the night.

Auburn’s offense was on fire with several multi-run innings including two multi-home run games. Rose Roach had a big night with a two-home run night, the first multi-home run game doubling her season total in just a night with a sixth-inning blast giving the lead at the time.

Not to be outdone, KK McCrary had her own multi-home run game with the second of the two coming in walk-off fashion, posting three RBIs in four at-bats posting three hits along the way.

Hailey Rainey started and finished the game for the Tiger’s her start was 2.2 long giving up seven runs, making way for SJ Geurin to come in and take over before Rainey would return in the seventh to close it out for the Tigers in a high leverage situation that turned sour fast as the Dawgs took a 10-9 lead in the seventh.

For Georgia the majority of their runs came from small ball, pushing just one beyond the fence of Jane B. Moore field. The Dawgs were led by Jaydyn Goodwin who continued her career year with a 2-5 night at the plate where she would come around to score. Also notable for Georgia was Tyler Ellison who posted five RBIs on her two hits including the lone Georgia home run.

Auburn and Georgia will go to game two Saturday afternoon with the first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m. at Jane B. Moore Field.
