Auburn takes on UAB in midweek doubleheader

AUBURN, Ala. – After winning their first two games and series in conference play, Auburn softball hosts the UAB Blazers in a midweek doubleheader at Jane B. Moore Field on Wednesday, looking to get back into a groove after a couple of tough weekends in SEC play.

Auburn won their series in Lexington against Kentucky, but has been struggling as of late, going 2-13 in conference play so far. The Tigers played four straight series in SEC matchups against top-25 teams before beating the Wildcats in two of three on the road. Auburn is looking to find some momentum to find a couple more wins against the beast that is an SEC softball schedule this season.

Auburn’s Annalea Adams and Nelia Peralta continue to swing the bats hot coming into this one, with both boasting averages over the .350 mark. Both have also knocked seven pitches over the wall this season, tying them for second behind two other special hitters in Icess Tresvick and freshman Anna Wohlers, who have eight apiece. These four make up the core of what has been a relatively successful Tigers offense, but Auburn has still struggled to put the needed runs on the board, especially against the SEC’s best-of-the-best. They will definitely be trying to gain some confidence heading towards the back half of conference matchups against the Blazers.

UAB, on the other hand, comes into this in-state doubleheader in the midst of what has been a tough season for the Blazers. They come in 16-21 and 6-9 in American Conference play so far. They lost their last series to Wichita State, but they did win the series finale, 4-1.

Despite the record, UAB is led by four talented hitters, Bella Wiggins, Hannah Dorsett, Lindsey Smith, and Hannah Miles. All four of them hit over .320 and Bella Wiggins stouts a team best .427 average on the season. Unlike Auburn however, UAB does not hit the ball out of the park a lot, with only 14 homers from their lineup compared to Auburn’s 43 on the season. These four will be the keys if they want to play upset against a Tiger team that has won the last 12 games in this series and has dominated the Blazers 16-2 all-time.

The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3:30 p.m. and the second will have first pitch around 6 p.m. at Jane B. Moore Field. Listen to both games live on WEGL 91.1 FM or on the Auburn Sports Network.
