Tigers shutout in series finale, swept for second straight series

AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 5 Texas defeated the No. 20 Auburn Tigers 3-0 in the series finale on Sunday, riding a complete game shut out by All-American pitcher Emiley Kennedy to complete the sweep of the Tigers.

The Tigers fell behind early in this one, with the Aggies designated player Mac Barbara driving in two runs with a single in the first inning. After the Aggies took the lead, All-American pitcher Emiley Kennedy took the circle and took command of the game, tossing a complete game shut out to give her a second win on the weekend. Kennedy only surrendered one hit on the afternoon and struck out three while walking three, as the Tigers could not muster any offense against the Aggies’ ace.

With the loss, the Tigers have lost seven straight and dropped their record to 20-8 and their conference record to 0-6. While the Malveaux era in the SEC on the Plains has had a rough start, the Tigers have had winnable games slip from their grasp, a trend they will look to correct moving forward.

However, the road does not get any easier, as the Tigers will take on two top-ranked teams in their next two series when they head to Austin and Lexington to face the No. 2 Texas Longhorns and No. 23 Kentucky Wildcats.

The Tigers will look to end their losing streak when they welcome the South Alabama Jaguars to Jane B. Moore Field on Tuesday for a midweek showdown. The Tigers will try to create some momentum with a win and carry it all the way out to the Lone Star State as they will try to upset the Longhorns.

The first pitch between the Tigers and Jaguars is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday. It will be broadcast on SECN+ and WEGL 91.1 FM.
