Tigers continue to find ways to win, start weekend 2-0

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn (15-1) started the Jane B. Memorial 2-0 with a dominant win over Rutgers to start the day and capped off the doubleheader with a win over the tough-to-beat McNeese Cowgirls.

The Tigers started with a Friday doubleheader. In game one against Rutgers, Auburn dominated in the circle, shutting out the Scarlet Knights 5-0. Anna Wohlers had a three-run home run to boost Auburn past Rutgers.

Despite a controversial call on an early homerun that tailed into foul ground in the first inning for the Cowgirls of McNeese State, Auburn battled back behind a five-run third inning to down McNeese 10-6. The Tiger offense was jump-started by Anna Wohlers who got the big inning started for Auburn. The Tigers also plated five in the sixth inning behind RBIs from KK McCrary, Skylar Elkins, and Anna Wohlers.

Auburn took down Rutgers fairly easily dominating on both sides of the ball, pitching was a key factor in the win, Haley Rainey got the start and after a solid two and two-thirds, she was pulled for SJ Geurin who took it the rest of the way to get her nation-leading 10th win.

Geurin went four in game one and gave up no runs, recording five strikeouts along the way. Geurin came in the second game to go three and two-thirds innings and add one more strikeout relinquishing two runs along the way.

If Geurin was the player of the day for Auburn on the defense the offensive equivalent was Icess Tresvik she had an incredibly efficient day at the plate going four for seven as she continued her hot start to the season, not to be outdone Anna Wohlers had a great day at the plate driving in six runs for Auburn including three in the battle with McNeese State.

Nelia Peralta also had a notable day at the plate, reaching base two times against Rutgers on walks, and coming around to score twice. In game two she had a big sac fly to extend the lead to two in the sixth, her second RBI of the game came when Auburn needed it the most for a big insurance run.

Indicative of the Auburn season the Tigers were able to win tight and by dominance to kick off the Memorial tournament. They will continue their play this weekend with a doubleheader Saturday and a weekend cap on Sunday afternoon.
