No. 20 Auburn falls to Georgia Tech in heartbreaking fashion

ATLANTA, Ga. - The No. 20 Auburn Tigers lost to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 5-4 on a two-out, two-run walk off home run by Grace Connelly to extend the Tigers losing streak to four games.

The Tigers entered the seventh inning leading 4-3 with sophomore pitcher Chalea Clemmons in the circle to try and get the save. Clemmons would strike out two and issue a walk before facing Connelly, where she left a 1-1 breaking ball over the heart of the plate and Connelly socked it over the left field fence, sending Shirley Clements Mewborn Field into a frenzy.

The Tigers came into this one on the heels of getting swept in Starkville by the Mississippi State Bulldogs and were looking to grab some momentum before heading back home to Jane B. Moore Field for a series against the Texas A&M Aggies. That momentum will have to be made from scratch, as the Tigers dropped their fourth consecutive game to move their record to 20-5. As for the Yellow Jackets, they improved to 15-9 on the season with this marquee win, as they hope it will propel them as they go further into conference play.

The Yellow Jackets received great contribution from star pitcher Sophia Voyles, as the senior right-hander completely shut down Auburn’s bats down the stretch. Voyles, the reigning ACC Pitcher of the Week, kept Auburn hitless through her first four innings in relief and held them scoreless, allowing her team the chance to come from behind and steal one from the Tigers.

The Tigers will be back in action Friday for a series with Texas A&M and they will undoubtedly look to break their four-game skid. The series will be broadcast on SECN+ and will be available for listeners on the Auburn Sports Network and WEGl 91.1 FM.
