Auburn to host Troy in final game before SEC play

AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 17 Auburn Tigers host their final home game before SEC play against the 12-8 Troy Trojans at Jane B. Moore Field Wednesday.

The Tigers look for their 20th and ninth straight win before SEC play starts this weekend with a mid-week matchup against the Troy Trojans. After a perfect 5-0 Jane B. Moore Memorial tournament this past weekend, the Tigers welcome a familiar in-state foe, Troy, to Jane B. Moore field. Troy has struggled on the road this year, going 0-2 in such games, which bodes well for an Auburn team that has been dominant at home this year.

Auburn will look for star pitcher, SJ Geurin, to keep producing at a high level on Wednesday. Geurin currently leads the nation with wins, 12, which set a program record for most in the first 20 games. The redshirt-sophomore for Auburn holds a 1.11 ERA in 17 appearances, while only giving up a .208 average. The Tigers will rely on her workhorse production against Troy and early on in SEC play.

On the other side, Auburn’s offense has gotten out to a hot start, averaging six runs on just over seven hits per game. It’s a perfect blend of speed and power with Auburn’s offense, with senior outfielder Icess Tresvik leading the team in steals and tied for six homers with Anna Wohlers. Look for Tresvik to try and steal a base with a great batter like Wohlers behind her. Although a lot of players haven’t tried to steal, Auburn has been effective with multiple players with 1.000 steal percentage.

Troy is coming off the Florida tournament, where they went 3-2, beating Florida A&M and Western Michigan twice. Troy’s bats have been making a lot of contact early in the season, averaging almost 13 hits a game, but have struggled turning those hits into runs. The Trojans average 3.8 runs per game, just under their team ERA of 4.4. Troy is led offensively by senior utility player, Taylor Mckinney. Although she is tied for third in hits on the team, Mckinney leads the Trojans in runs and is second in home runs.  Whoever the Tigers throw her way will need to be careful not to allow her to get too many bases.

The first pitch against Troy is set for 6 p.m Wednesday. The game will be broadcasted on WEGL 91.1 FM and SECN+.
