Auburn earns series win over Wildcats in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Game two of Auburn baseball’s road trip to Lexington was just as exciting and filled with as many twists as the first. The 11-inning matchup saw Auburn win 8-7. Auburn battled review controversy and several bases-loaded jams to come out on top in Lexington.

The Tigers got out to an early lead but were quickly overtaken by a two-run fifth from the Wildcats that put them ahead by a run but the Tigers were not done there with a four-run sixth in which they batted around and the Tigers took a 6-3 lead.

The Auburn offense was driven by several players but most notably Ike Irish also showed his health with five hits in his six appearances including a double and two home runs that extended the Auburn lead in the ninth and put Auburn ahead in the 11th scoring the run that would prove to be the difference.

Deric Fabain also was key in the win; he had two RBIs on the day where he was one for four at the plate with a run scored himself.

Auburn’s pitching was impressive all afternoon long with starter Cade Fisher going four innings giving up just one run and two hits striking out one. In relief was Alvarez who gave up four hits and two runs striking out two in his three innings of solid work.

A gaggle of Auburn pitchers had a mix of longer and shooter outings all of which did their part in the win.

Kentucky was able to climb back in the ninth to send the game to extra innings knotted at seven after several controversial calls that went in the Wildcat's favor. After a scoreless 10th from both sides, Auburn broke the deadlock over four hours into the match with the Ike Irish home run.

Carlson closed it out for what was, despite a few setbacks, a good day on the rubber for Auburn pitcher Carlson got out of the bases-loaded jam in the 10th and pushed the Tigers over the line in the 11th after Kentucky attempted to steal home with two outs in the ninth.

Auburn is back in action Sunday afternoon where they will look to sweep the series with Kentucky out in Lexington.
