AUBURN, Ala. - Star pitcher SJ Geurin picked up her nation-leading 12th win of the season as the No. 19 Auburn Tigers defeated the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 4-3 to improve to 19-1.
The win capped a 5-0 weekend in the Jane B. Moore Memorial Tournament for the Tigers, and extended their win streak to eight games. SJ Geurin continued her workhorse-like mentality, picking up three wins and two saves on the weekend and lowering her ERA to a team-best 1.11. Geurin, an Oklahoma transfer, has proven she can get big outs for the Tigers and has established herself as a bona fide ace in the Tigers' rotation.
The Tigers fell behind early in this one, with starting pitcher Icess Tresvik issuing three walks, a hit by pitch and a wild pitch to plate a run for the Ragin’ Cajuns. The Tigers responded in the bottom half of the inning with three runs of their own and never trailed again.
AnnaLea Adams continued to swing a hot bat, recording two more hits and an RBI to increase her batting average to a team-leading .524, as well as helping the Tigers emerge victorious once again. The Tigers also got production from first baseman Amelia Lech, who went 2-2 with an RBI. KK McCrary and Rose Roach each also logged a hit and an RBI, as the Tigers would combine for nine hits on the afternoon against Ragin’ Cajun pitching.
For the Ragin’ Cajuns, they enjoyed a relatively successful trip to the plains, winning their first three contests before falling in back-to-back games against the Tigers. They will take these tough losses on the chin and try to regroup before they head to Starkville, Miss. to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Wednesday.
The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday when they take on the Troy Trojans at Jane B. Moore field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on SECN+ and WEGL 91.1 FM.
