Tigers open season with 4-1 win over Holy Cross

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn Baseball got the 2025 campaign off to a good start, topping the Holy Cross Crusaders 4-1 behind a great showing from their revamped pitching staff.

Florida transfer Cade Fisher started on the bump, going three and one third innings, striking out five batters, allowing no hits and giving up one earned run. Sophomore Cam Tilly came on in relief and earned the win, going two and two thirds with zero earned runs. Carson Myers, a senior who came over from UAB a year ago, earned the save. He pitched the final three frames, striking out three batters and only allowing one hit.

“Very solid baseball on both sides,” Head Coach Butch Thompson remarked. “A really good start for them, and excellent finish by Carson Myers, and a good way to start the season.”

The Auburn bats were solid tonight, specifically in the bottom half of the order. Shortstop Deric Fabian and second baseman eric snow both went 2-4 and combined for three RBI. The real magic came from Cade Belyeu.

The Tigers’ centerfielder played Friday night despite losing his mother to cancer earlier in the day. He got a hit in his first at bat before stealing second and being driven to score Auburn’s first run of the season. Then in the bottom of the sixth, Belyeu caught ahold of a ball and sent it out to the deck in centerfield.

“That was literally the best thing I’ve ever seen in baseball,” Eric Snow said after the game. “It means more when the kid’s loving and caring in the locker room and works his butt off every day.”

Carson Myers added on, saying, “Cade’s an awesome human being… to be able to do that tonight for his mom, that’s just something you don’t see.”

The series continues Saturday. Game two is at 6 p.m. on the Auburn Sports Network and SEC Network +.
