AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn women’s basketball (11-11) hosts the Aggies of Texas A&M (10-11) on Thursday night inside Neville Arena. Auburn looks to improve on its conference record against another team that has been trending toward the bottom of the SEC all season.
Auburn is coming off a loss in Columbia to the 2nd-best team in the nation in South Carolina, 83-66. Auburn trailed practically from start to finish against the Gamecocks despite the efforts of DeYona Gaston. Gaston had 32 points and kept the Tigers within possible striking range despite unbelievable shot-making from the AP Number 2.
Auburn remains without Taliah Scott, one of their top scorers when she suits up. Auburn has desperately needed some of her shooting ability during this rough stretch of SEC play. Fortunately for Auburn, Gaston has been superb for coach Johnnie Harris and has carried the Tigers’ offense for much of the season. She will need to have another great night to put Auburn back in the win column.
Texas A&M on the other side has lost three straight, including losses to two top-10 teams in LSU and Texas. The three-game skid has dropped the Aggies to 3-6 in conference play after starting off at the .500 mark. A&M does have a couple impressive wins, however, including one over No. 11 Kentucky.
The Aggies have a pretty balanced team overall when it comes to scoring. They are led by Aicha Coulibaly who averages 12.8 points per game. Sahara Jones adds about 10 per night for Texas A&M and Jada Malone has 8.2 points per matchup usually coming off of the bench. The Aggies have not been great from beyond the arc, shooting an abysmal 25.1 percent as a team on the season. A&M also has not won a road game all year. They are 0-5 on the season away from home.
The game tips off at 6 p.m. CST on Thursday, Feb. 6th. You can tune in to the Auburn Sports Network or stream it live on SEC Network Plus.
