Ranked road test awaits Tigers

NORMAN, Okla. - Coming off a great win last Thursday against Texas A&M, Auburn is looking to get back-to-back wins in SEC play against Oklahoma.  It’ll be a tough task to do against the 16th-ranked Sooners on the road as the Sooners play their best ball at home, coming into the contest 10-2 at home this year. Oklahoma hasn’t let off the gas recently against unranked opponents, especially at home, holding a 14-1 record this season and winning 19 of their last 20 against unranked opponents.

Oklahoma comes into this game with a red-hot offense that ranks top-10 in scoring, rebounding, assists and points off the bench.  This explosive group is led by Oregon State transfer and third-team All-American, Raegan Beers, who averages 16.9 points a game on an efficient 66.1 percent. Beers also joins Verhulst and Williams as Sooners in double figures, with Verhulst recording back-to-back double-doubles coming into tonight’s game.

Fortunately for the Auburn Tigers, senior guard Mar’shaun Bostic and graduate forward DeYona Gaston have been playing their best ball recently. Bostic has nine or more assists in the last three games, including a 10-point-10 assist double-double last week against Texas A&M. Down low, Gaston has been the nation’s eighth-leading scorer and third in the SEC with 21.8 points the game. Gaston has 11 games with 20+ and four games with 30+ points. The Tigers will need to get this duo going offensively early to try and match Oklahoma’s top-notch offense.

Auburn vs. Oklahoma will be broadcast at 6:45 p.m. CST this Tuesday on ESPN 106.7 FM and the SEC network.
