Auburn softball ties best start since 2022, tops Clemson

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Auburn softball (6-0) looked to keep the good vibes going after going undefeated in their opening matchups over the last weekend. They continued their winning momentum, putting the Clemson Tigers down 6-3 Thursday afternoon in their opening matchup of the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational down in Florida.

The runs came early and often, with Clemson striking in the top of the first. It was Maddie Moore who put Clemson on the board as she got a hold of one and put it over the left field fence to give Clemson a 1-0 advantage. It didn’t last long for the Tigers from Clemson as Auburn was able to bring two across on back to back RBI doubles from Icess Tresvik and Anna Wohlers to make it 2-1. Rose Roach put one over the wall in the bottom of the second and Auburn’s Tigers took a 3-1 lead. Ma’Nia Womack caught one and took it deep for Auburn in the third, driving in three more runs and breaking open a 6-1 advantage.

Clemson didn’t take it lying down. Maddie Moore scored once again in the fourth for Clemson as Macey Cintron poked one down the left field line to make it 6-2 and Alex Brown lined one into center field to score another in the fifth. However, the Auburn defense was able to shut the Tiger offense down after that to claim Auburn’s first 6-0 start since 2022 in a 6-3 victory in Clearwater.

Chalea Clemmons claimed her third win of the new campaign, giving Auburn five strong innings, only allowing five hits and three runs while also striking out a batter. Oklahoma transfer SJ Geurin was on point out of the pen, earning her first save on the year in her two innings in the circle. She had a strikeout while allowing only two hits and most importantly, zero runs.

Auburn continues the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational early tomorrow morning against Virginia at 9 a.m. CST. You can watch the game live on ESPN2 or listen to the game right here on WEGL 91.1 FM.
