Auburn visits Baton Rouge, faces undefeated Tigers

BATON ROUGE, La. – After having back-to-back losses at Neville Arena, the Auburn Tigers (9-5) look for an upset against a top 10 team they beat last season as they head out to Louisiana for a battle of the Tigers with Louisiana State (16-0) in Baton Rouge.

LSU is ranked sixth in the nation with an undefeated record of 16-0 heading into their home opener for SEC competition, with their most recent matchup being a 94-68 thrashing of Arkansas. Auburn on the other hand fell to 9-5 during their recent two game skid at home, losing to Norfolk State 63-57, and opening up the new year and conference play with a blowout 85-58 loss against No. 25 Ole Miss.

The Tigers from LSU sport four scorers averaging double-digits on the season. Flau’Jae Johnson leads them averaging 20.2 PPG, Aneesah Morrow and Mikayla Williams add 17.9 and 16.3 PPG respectively, and Kailyn Gilbert averages 10.9 off the bench for Coach Kim Mulkey. This impressive group heads the monster that is the second best offense in the SEC statistically, only trailing the Lady Vols of Tennessee. They also are the fourth best from behind-the-arc and third best at limiting other teams from the three point line.

LSU is a powerhouse in the SEC and has been for many years, but as shown last year in Neville Arena, even the greatest teams can fall flat. Coach Johnnie Harris will certainly have her team ready to go as they make their way to the Bayou.

The game will be live on SEC Network at 3 p.m. CT or can be listened to anywhere via the Auburn Athletics App and Auburn Sports Network.
