LEXINGTON, Ky. - Coming off a tough one-point loss to Arkansas Thursday, Coach Harris and Auburn (9-7, 0-3) will try to get her team to bounce back against a hot No. 15 Kentucky (14-1, 3-0) team.
Led by head coach Kenny Brooks, Kentucky has started 3-0 in SEC play with double-digit wins over Vandy, Florida, and Mississippi State. It all starts on the defensive end for the Wildcats as they lead the nation in blocks with an average of 7.3 per game. Those limited opportunities provided by Clara Strack, averaging 2.3 swats per game, and the rest of the Kentucky defense have limited opposing teams to 59.1 points per game. That average allowed is a whopping 20 points less than their average production on the offensive side. The Wildcats are led by graduate student Georgia Amoore as she averages 17.9 points and dishing out 7.2 assists per game.
After a great 9-3 start to the season for Coach Harris and the Auburn women’s basketball, the team has quickly lost four in a row, including an 0-3 start to conference play. In order to beat a great Kentucky team while being in a cold spell, Auburn will have to heavily rely on grad-student DeYona Gaston. Gaston already has a record season as she set the Neville record for most points for an Auburn player with 36 points against Virginia University-Lynchburg. That’s not the only great performance from her this year as she also has another 35-point game and five double-doubles on the year. The Tigers will need another record performance from Gaston alongside another strong performance from Taliah Scott off the bench to pull off the upset.
Tipoff for the Tigers and Wildcats is set for 2 p.m. CT Sunday and will be broadcast on SECN and the Auburn Sports Network.
