Auburn seeks first SEC win against Arkansas

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn Tigers (9-6, 0-2 SEC) will host the Arkansas Razorbacks (7-10, 0-2 SEC) as both teams look for their first conference win of the season.

Auburn will return home looking to snap a three-game losing streak. The Tigers most recently faltered on the road at No. 6 LSU. The Tigers also suffered defeats against Norfolk State and No. 25 Ole Miss and are searching for their first SEC win of the season.

Auburn is led by star forward DeYona Gaston, as the grad transfer from Texas ranks eighth nationally with 22.7 points per game to go along with 8.4 rebounds a game. Gaston became the first player in Auburn history to record two 35-point games in the same season, doing so against VUL and Alabama State. Gaston has also recorded five double-doubles, most recently against Norfolk State where she recorded 29 points and 12 rebounds.

Arkansas is riding a two-game losing skid of their own entering Thursday night's contest, with their losses coming at the hands of No. 6 LSU and No. 5 Texas. The Razorbacks are led by Izzy Higginbottom, the SEC’s leading scorer in points per game (23.8) and total points (404). She is also top five nationally in free throws made and made field goals, marking a tough matchup for Coach Harris’ squad to gameplan for.

Auburn and Arkansas met twice last season, once in the regular season and once in the SEC tournament, with the Razorbacks winning a close one 74-72 in Fayetteville before Auburn was able to best them in Nashville 67-48. A win for the Tigers would be the first home victory over the Razorbacks since 2016. The Tigers lead the all-time series 24-22 and will look to widen the margin with a victory Thursday night.

Tipoff for the Tigers vs Razorbacks is set for 6 p.m. on SECN+ and the Auburn Sports Network.
