BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 1 Auburn Tigers (18-1) take a trip down to the bayou on Wednesday night to face LSU (12-7) in a battle of the Tigers. Auburn looks to extend its winning streak and continue to top both the analytics and rankings with a win in Baton Rouge.
Auburn has won 11 straight since losing to Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium, including a thrilling win against 8th ranked Tennessee Saturday night in Neville Arena, 53-51. The win kept them undefeated in SEC play so far this season as well as kept them up at the top of Associated Press top 25 poll.
Auburn is led by National Player of the Year frontrunner Johni Broome, who is averaging 17.8 points and 10.9 rebounds on the season for the Tigers. Other players who look to get involved include the freshman guard Tahaad Pettiford, who has been a spark plug on offense and played significant minutes off the bench so far this season.
LSU on the other hand has lost two straight to No. 11 Texas A&M and 4th ranked Alabama. They have not been great in SEC play outside of these two games either, sitting at 1-5 in conference play so far. Their one win came against Arkansas on Jan. 14.
Cam Carter has been the main threat for the Bayou Tigers, averaging 17.6 points on an impressive 39.2 percent from behind the arc. Other than Carter, not many on this LSU squad have hit consistently above average from deep this season. Jordan Sears averages 14.2 points per game but his lackluster 38.6 percent from the field makes it difficult to score efficiently. Both of these players will have to have stellar nights and a couple others will have to step up if they want to take down the No. 1 team in America.
The game tips off at 6 p.m. CST Wednesday. Tune in on the Auburn Sports Network or watch on the SEC Network.
