AUBURN, Ala. - Starting 2-0 and following a 92-point victory, the Auburn Tigers Women’s Basketball team looks to continue early season dominance against Little Rock this Thursday.
Through two games, the new-look Tigers have shown the potential to be a team to watch out for. Their first game against SIU was a 34-point victory that saw four Tigers get into double-digits, followed by a beatdown of VA-Lynchburg that saw DeYona Gaston drop 36 points.
Gaston, a senior transfer from Texas, has been Auburn’s spark plug. She is averaging 25 points and 9 boards on a ridiculous 61.8% shooting clip and has propelled herself as the clear number one option.
Other Tigers are stepping up as well. Sophomores Celia Sumbane and Audia Young had limited roles last year, but have stepped up and looked fantastic so far, with both of them averaging over 12 points a game.
Freshman Jordan Hunter is another piece of this team to watch. The freshman from Trussville was ranked as the number one overall prospect in Alabama and has contributed valuable minutes off the bench for the Tigers so far. Hunter has the potential to give Auburn depth and scoring off of the bench, which is indispensable in the game of college basketball.
On the other side of the court, the Little Rock Trojans are 1-1, coming off of a tough loss to Arkansas in overtime. That loss shows that the Trojans are nothing to scoff at, and they can compete with Power Five talent.
Junior Faith Lee has had a great career with the Trojans and is averaging 20 points through her first two contests. Some other names to watch on the Trojans: Sug Williams, a do-it-all guard averaging 13 points and 7 rebounds, and freshman Emerald Parker who is averaging a near double-double.
It should be a competitive matchup in Neville Arena as the Tigers will tip off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. You can catch the game streaming on SECN+ or listen in on the Auburn Sports Network.
