AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn Women’s Basketball gets their 2024-2025 campaign underway Monday night as they host Southern Illinois in Neville Arena. Head coach Johnnie Harris looks to keep the momentum from last season rolling as last season’s NCAA tournament appearance along with a few marquee wins has catapulted Auburn into the national spotlight. With the loss of star player Honesty Scott-Grayson Auburn will need others to step up in her absence.
One candidate to step into the shoes of Scott-Grayson is Taylen Collins, the big one, who was a double-double machine last year and was essential in the Tigers' run to the NCAA tournament. Taylen Collins will be looked to as a leader both on and off the floor for the Tigers in Johnnie Harris’s fourth year on the plains.
Another player to watch this year for Auburn will be Mar'shaun Bostic, the high-energy guard who is the epitome of Coach Harris’s style, will be another veteran leader on this Tigers team and certainly will be essential to the high-energy and defensive-focused style of play for the Tigers.
Perhaps the player most likely to replace the scoring prowess of Scott-Grayson will be Sophomore Taliah Scott the transfer from Arkansas comes in after leading the Razorbacks in scoring with 22.1 points per game in her freshman year on her way to a selection to the SEC all-freshman team.
Auburn was picked ninth in the SEC preseason poll and is currently receiving votes in the national poll. The marked improvement of the Tigers since Coach Harris’s arrival on the plains has put the country on notice as Auburn has become somewhat of a significant hurdle for the top SEC dogs to deal with throughout the course of the year.
Coming off a huge win in their pre-season exhibition against LaGrange the Tigers will come into the season opener with quite a bit of confidence as they look to repeat and improve on last season’s success.
The game will be streamed on the SECN+ with the radio broadcast on ESPN 106.7. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. CT in Neville Arena.
