AUBURN, Ala -- The No. 6 Auburn Tigers (7-0-0) look to remain perfect as they face off against Old Dominion(5-2-0) Friday at the Auburn Soccer Complex. The Tigers aim to maintain their flawless record and build on their dominant 28-0 goal differential.
Auburn is led by their accomplished coach Karen Hoppa. Hoppa is not taking Old Dominion lightly, stating, “It’ll be no easy task. Old Dominion is a really good team,” and further emphasizing, “They’re well-coached. We expect them to be very organized, and they’ve got a center forward who is as dangerous as anyone we’ve played this year.”
Auburn will be relying on standout sophomore Olivia Woodson, who has had a great start to the season. Woodson was recently named SEC Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the 49th minute against Ohio State.
In goal, Maddie Prohaska has been nothing short of perfect this season, recording 9 saves and allowing 0 goals through seven games. The Tigers will feel confident with her defending the net.
Old Dominion enters the match at 5-2-0 overall, with its losses coming at Liberty (2-0) and versus LSU (2-1). The Monarchs are on a two-game winning streak after shutting out George Mason and Longwood last week, 1-0 and 2-0 respectively.
Auburn will need to focus on forward Rhea Kijowski, who leads the Monarchs in scoring with three goals and one assist. Midfielder Katie Lutz has also contributed with two goals. Emily Bredek and Erin Jones have shared goalkeeping duties, both performing well and allowing an average of just 0.74 goals per game.
