Auburn looks to start the season strong in the season opener against Alabama A&M

Coach Freeze and the Tigers take on the FCS Bulldogs Saturday, August 31st 6:30 CT

AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn will look to start the season strong in the season opener this Saturday, August 31st, at 6:30 PM CT against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. Head coach Hugh Freeze is entering his second year at Auburn. Freeze enters this year with a strong sense of confidence, stating that “last year is in the past” and “I do know we’re better. Our roster is better. Our culture is better. Our chemistry is better. And it makes you feel better.”

Tiger fans have several reasons to feel hopeful this season. Hugh Freeze has shown his adaptation to the new age of college recruitment by bringing in the 8th best recruiting class in the nation, led by five-star recruits Cam Coleman and Amaris Williams. Freeze also brought in several veterans from the transfer portal, including former Penn State wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith.

Cam Coleman was unguardable in high school, leading Phenix City Central to a 7A state championship in his senior season, where he racked up over 1,300 yards and 18 TDs. This five-star recruit will be looking to make an impact against the Bulldogs on Saturday. With his top-end speed and 6-foot-3 frame, he is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. Amaris Williams is no slouch either. The 6-foot-2 EDGE is a freak athlete with long arms and overpowering strength. Despite that, his quick-twitch speed is his best asset, developed from playing running back throughout high school.

The Tigers are 2-0 against Alabama A&M, winning by an average of 50 points. Coach Freeze and the Tigers look to start the season strong with a dominating performance on the Plains before beginning FBS play next weekend against Cal.

The Tigers and the Bulldogs kick off at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Tune in on ESPN+ or the Auburn Sports Network.
