AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn Tigers (15-8, 4-6) host the Kentucky Wildcats (9-15, 2-8) Thursday in Neville Arena, hoping to strengthen their résumé and make a push for postseason play.
The Tigers are coming in following a strong showing on the road at Missouri and sit at tenth in the SEC standings. A win over Kentucky could jump them as high as seventh in the conference, and one game closer to an NCAA tournament berth.
The Wildcats have had a rough go of things as of late, entering Neville Arena on a five-game losing streak, three of which have not been close.
Honesty-Scott Grayson continues her push for the All-SEC team in her fourth season on the plains. The senior guard is averaging 17.7 points, 4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.4 steals, doing it all for the Tigers on both ends. She has been on a tear lately, eclipsing the 20-point mark in four straight games, but the Tigers have fallen in two of those. A win over a lesser conference foe in Kentucky is vital in keeping Auburn’s dreams of mid-March basketball alive.
In her third season at the helm, Tigers head coach Johnnie Harris has led her team to continual improvement season over season. Auburn is one conference win away from last year’s total of five, and they are in serious contention for their first NCAA Tournament bid under Harris. With six games left, chances to make a statement are limited. A big win at home is just what the Tigers need to kick-start an exciting finish.
The Tigers tip off against the Wildcats in Neville Arena on Thursday, February 15, at 7 p.m. Tune in on the SEC Network or listen on the Auburn Sports Network.
