Auburn (16-9, 5-7) as they make the trek to Baton Rouge to take on the Tigers of LSU (22-4, 9-3). Auburn is coming off a tough road loss in Tuscaloosa where they fell by a narrow margin of six points. Auburn currently sits in ESPN’s last four for tournament seeding as with four games remaining March and the SEC tournament are approaching rapidly.
Auburn has some marquee wins this season and several games on their schedule that could bolster their resume come selection Sunday. Auburn’s best win this far is their win over LSU in the team’s first matchup of the season when they clashed at Neville Arena. Auburn handed LSU their first loss of conference play and will look to do the same come Thursday night.
Auburn will once again look to Honesty Scott-Grayson for help Thursday she led the team in scoring last time out against Alabama and in the first meeting with LSU when she had a team-high 21 points on 42 percent shooting from the field.
Auburn will again need to attempt to contain LSU’s one-two punch of Angel Reece and Hailey Van Lith. Reece had a game-high 24 points in the first matchup and she completed a double-double with 11 rebounds. Hailey Van Lith, however, shot 1-9 from the field in the first matchup tallying only three points in her 28 minutes of work on the Plains.
In their first meeting, Auburn’s bench scored 17 points in comparison to LSU’s Seven. They also outscored LSU in the points off turnovers category 20-15, these two categories will be ones to watch as Auburn visits the Bayou.
LSU currently sits as a four seed in ESPN’s bracket prediction and they boast a 14-1 record on their home court so a win will by no means be easy the Tigers have pulled off the upset before so if they can repeat much of the same style they did last time out against LSU a win is very much within reach.
The game will tip off at 8:00 pm in Baton Rouge and will be streaming on the SEC network in conjunction with the Auburn Sports Network.
