Auburn faces tiger showdown against the No. 7 LSU

AUBURN, Ala. — In a women’s basketball showdown, the Auburn Tigers (11-5, 0-3) face off against the No. 7 LSU Tigers (16-1, 3-0) this upcoming Sunday in a chance for Auburn to gain their first SEC conference win of the season.

Since opening the season, 11-2 Auburn has started both 2024 and the SEC season 0-3, and a win against LSU will be a huge resume boost, and confidence boost as SEC play starts to heat up.

Not only is Auburn looking to end their three-game losing streak to start off the 2023-2024 SEC conference season, but they are also looking to end their three-game losing streak against the LSU who they have not beaten since February 16, 2020.

Ending their series of three-game losing streaks will be tough for the Auburn Tigers, especially since LSU’s Angel Reese is so dominant, and just by looking at the stats Auburn does not have a single player who can match up to her in the stats alone.

Angel Reese averages 19.8 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game, along with a dominating defensive performance for this season with 27 steals and seven blocks, Reese is a dominating offensive and defensive player who Auburn will have trouble guarding.

It’s not to say that Auburn can’t win the game, they must buckle down to win the game, and one of the keys for that to happen is that Honesty Scott-Grayson needs to have the night of her career.

Scott-Grayson is one of Auburn's best players and currently is the only player on the Auburn lineup averaging more than ten points per game at a season average of 15.5 points per game.

For Auburn to have a chance at a win, on defense they are going to need to find an innovative strategy to defend against Angel Reese, and on offense in addition to Scott-Grayson, other Auburn Tigers are going to have to find a way for the ball to go through the net.

This tiger showdown will take place on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 2 pm CT in Neville Arena for the Auburn Tiger’s chance at their first SEC victory of the season.
