AUBURN, AL - NOVEMBER 30 - Auburn’s Honesty Scott-Grayson (23) during the game between the Auburn Tigers and the Clemson Tigers at Neville Arena in Auburn, AL on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023.

Honesty Scott-Grayson leads Tigers past Blazers

Auburn (6-2) moves to 3-0 in the state of Alabama and gets their 20th win in 21 meetings against UAB (6-1) as the short road trip to Birmingham proves fruitful for the Tigers taking a 10-point win 72-62.

The win was not without its stars as the Tigers’ Scott-Grayson posted an impressive team-high 22 points on only one three-point attempt which was good. Scott Grayson was efficient on her big day shooting 9-16 in the win. Scott-Grayson also led the team in assists posting four to balance out her stat line.

Honesty was just special today,” Head Coach Johnnie Harris said. “She was a tone-setter. I was trying to keep the ball in her hands. She got a little tired because she was guarding their quickest player. She was doing it not only on the offensive end but on defense too.

As a team the Tigers played well, they were efficient from the field with an impressive 46.7 percent from the field and adding that a solid 40 percent from beyond the arc however only attempted five from that range.

The team defines themselves by getting to the hoop and making high percentage shots putting up over half of their points from the paint.

“We played three post players, and they all did something to help us out.” Head Harris said ““I thought our length bothered them in the second quarter.”

This team's defense has also been a trademark as again today they posted 20 points off of 17 forced turnovers. Nine steals for the Tigers were a highlight of the box score lead by Mar'shaun Bostic who had four.

“We played hard,” Harris added after the win “imposed our will early”

The Auburn defense did not stop at steals, also posting 6 blocks in the affair and holding the Blazers to 29.5 percent shooting from the field. However they continued their stellar free-throw shooting posting an 82.6 percentage from the line, something Auburn may want to adopt as they posted a 61 percent free-throw percentage.

On the other side of the court, Mia Moore came close to another double-double as she posted eight points and nine rebounds however only shot 2-16 from the field but was 4-4 from the line. Tracey Bershers posted nine rebounds for the Blazers as well.

The Tigers will be back in action on December 10th as they make a road trip to visit the Little Rock Trojans for a 2 pm tipoff. The game will be streaming on SECN+ and the Auburn Sports Network.
