Auburn (6-6-4, 2-4-2) lost 1-0 on Thursday night to Florida (6-5-4, 2-4-2). The Gators scored in the 45th minute, and that would be all they needed as the Tigers were unable to find the net.
"We are certainly disappointed to come away with no points tonight, but that's on us," Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa said. "We have to be better in the final third to be successful down the stretch."
The match looked as if it would be tied at zero at halftime, but with 11 seconds left, Florida's Lena Bailey found an opening and scored. Auburn had multiple attempts at goals in the first half but was unable to capitalize.
Senior Mallory Mooney had the closest attempt at a goal in the first half for the Tigers. She kicked the ball towards the left post, but Florida goalie Alex Goldberg made a diving save.
The Tigers would not allow a goal in the second half but also failed to score one themselves. Junior Carley Thatcher came the closest to knocking one in with four minutes left, but yet again, Florida goalie Alex Goldberg made the save.
Auburn had seven total shots and five corner kicks, but could not find the net. Auburn's goalie, Maddie Prohaska, saved three out of four shots in the match, raising her total saves in her career to 245.
Next up for the Tigers is Senior Night. They'll play their final home game against LSU on Sunday, October 22nd, at 4 p.m. C.T.
