No. 25 Auburn (13-3, 3-2) defeated No. 6 Florida (11-3, 3-2) three sets to none on Friday night in Gainesville.
Only two weeks ago, Florida defeated Auburn in five sets in Neville Arena. The Tigers, however, would get their revenge in Gainesville. Auburn won 25-23, 25-20, and 25-17 in the three sets.
"A lot of emotions. I am so proud of the team. We felt like we had them last time at home, so I wasn't surprised we were able to compete with them early on here," Auburn head coach Brent Couch said. "Once we got into that second set, Bel [Zimmerman] went on a really good service run, and I thought that was really the story. They had a hard time handling it."
Leading the charge for the Tigers was Akasha Anderson with 18 kills and Madison Scheer with 14. Jackie Barrett also added 37 assists, which helped Auburn finish with .387 swing efficiency in the match.
"Just phenomenal. When your outside hitters are on like this, you're going to win. You're going to win every time," Couch said. "We've been working on hitting mechanics a ton in practice. I'm excited to go back and watch the video to see what tonight looked like."
Defeating Florida is a huge win for the program, and it proved to the rest of the conference that the Tigers are a force to be reckoned with. However, the road does not get any easier as they have two more games on the road before returning home.
Next up for Auburn is South Carolina (6-7, 0-4) in Columbia. The match will start at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
