Auburn (5-5-3, 1-3-1) fell 2-1 on Thursday night to Alabama (8-2-4, 2-2-1) in a hard-fought battle between the rivals in Tuscaloosa.
Nadia Ramadan scored an early goal in the ninth minute for the Tide, but Auburn would tie it up with a goal of their own in the 38th minute. Redshirt freshman Dylan Driver scored the goal, her second of the year.
The Tigers would have one corner kick and a total of six shots, but were only able to put one in the net. The match would remain tied until the 86th minute, when Felicia Knox would score what wound up being the game-winning goal for the Tide.
Auburn goalie Maddie Prohaska had a season-high eight saves, but unfortunately, it was not enough for the Tigers.
For the Tigers, it was another close loss and another missed opportunity.
"Another heartbreaking loss for this group," Tigers head coach Karen Hoppa said. "We've got to compete and give our all for the full 90 minutes because we are capable of beating these teams. Overall, we played great. We just made a defensive error in the final five minutes, and Alabama is too good of a team to not take advantage of that."
With the loss, the Tigers are now 5-5-3 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play. Next up, the Tigers will return home to face the No. 6th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks. The match will kick off at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.
