Auburn look to get back on track against Missouri

Auburn (22-9, 1-2 SEC) will be back in action this coming weekend on The Plains. Auburn will take on the Missouri Tigers (20-11, 1-5 SEC) in a three game series starting Saturday and going through Monday.

The Tigers will look to rebound after a tough stretch in the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Classic, which saw the team only win one game and lose the last four straight.

Missouri holds the all-time series record between the two teams 11-9. The teams last faced off in the 2022 SEC Tournament where Missouri eliminated Auburn in a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat.

Auburn’s Bri Ellis will be one to watch out for throughout the series. After going 1-14 in the last five games, the infielder will look to get back on track while adding onto a team high eight home runs.

Much like Ellis will be a problem for Missouri to contain, outfielder Alex Honnold will test Auburn’s pitching staff to the fullest. Honnold has batted an impressive .493 in 73 at bats this season while adding on seven home runs for Missouri.

To counteract Honnold’s ability to impact the game, there will be no question how important Maddie Penta’s role will be. The junior has been the cornerstone of Auburn’s pitching this weekend, posting a 1.05 ERA to go along with 11 wins.

Regardless of matchups, Auburn will have to battle against a Missouri team that has won four of its last six, including a midweek 7-1 victory over Drake. It will be nothing short of crucial for Auburn to slow down the momentum Missouri comes into the game with to have a chance of coming away with a win.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT Friday night at Jane B. Moore Field with broadcasting on SEC Network+ with the final two games being broadcasted on the SEC Network.
