Baton Rouge, LA. - Auburn's record-setting 14-0 start was halted by another pack of Tigers this evening.
The Auburn Tigers (14-1, 3-1 SEC) traveled to Baton Rouge, LA to take on the LSU Tigers (10-6, 4-2 SEC).
LSU got off to a hot start, winning the first set 25-22. Auburn responded immediately winning sets two and three 25-20. LSU was able to stop Auburn's momentum with a 25-21 win in the fourth set. That set them up to take set five and the match 15-12.
The SEC Freshman of the week Akasha Anderson had another big match, recording her fifth double-double of the season. She recorded 22 kills, two assists, one service ace, 11 digs and two blocks. Four of those kills came in the first set.
Chelsea Harmon tied her season-high with 12 kills, had a .435 hitting percentage and recorded seven blocks. Her presence in the middle had a huge impact on Auburn's success.
Madison Scheer, yet another young star on this team, recorded 12 kills (five of them in the first set) and four digs.
Kendal Kemp was another force for Auburn tonight. She tied her career-best with 10 kills and also had four blocks.
LSU was lead by Senior outside hitter Sanaa Dotson. She recorded 22 kills, a .250 hitting percentage, 12 digs and three blocks.
"I thought we battled really hard. You know this team, win or lose, they’re working as hard as they can all the time. And it’s obvious," Auburn head coach Brent Crouch said. "When you’re down as much as we were in the fifth and then to come back that close is just an example of it."
Auburn will be back in action this Saturday and Sunday at home against the Georgia Bulldogs. Both matches will get underway at 4:00 P.M.
