Auburn, AL - John Cohen has been hired as Auburn's new Athletic Director.
Speculation that this move would be made started swirling on Saturday after Auburn's loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks.
“John has a wealth of experience in college athletics, particularly in the Southeastern Conference and his resume and references are impeccable,” Auburn University President Chris Roberts said. “His leadership and success as a head coach and an athletic director speak for themselves. John will embrace Auburn and be a tremendous leader for our athletics program as we move forward."
Many Auburn coaches had some positive comments to make as well.
“John has won championships at the highest level both as a coach and as an administrator and knows how to win. Given his experience as a Southeastern Conference Athletic Director and knowing he’s empowering Rich McGlynn, this is the best of both worlds," Auburn head basketball coach Bruce Pearl said. "I’m excited about our new leadership team. It’s time for the Auburn family to come together as we move forward.”
Cohen's first move was the promotion of Rich McGlynn to Deputy Athletics Director. McGlynn had been serving as interim athletic director for the past two months. During that time he generated a lot of support as a candidate for athletic director.
One of Cohen's first objectives at Auburn is sure to be hiring a new head football coach.
