Auburn, AL - The Auburn Tigers (6-3-5, 2-3-1 SEC) were victorious over the Mississippi State Bulldogs (9-2-3, 3-2-1 SEC) this afternoon at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
A goal from midfielder Carly Thatcher that came at the 79:52 mark of the game was enough to put the Tigers over the top. The goal was assisted by forwards Olivia Candelino and Sydney Richards.
This match got off to a slow start as the Bulldogs were unable to put a single shot on target in the first half compared to Auburn's four.
Mississippi State goalkeeper Mac Titus received a yellow card for unsporting at the 43:47 mark of the game.
Auburn took six total shots in the first half, four of them were on goal. Mississippi State managed three shots, none being on goal. Bulldogs goal keeper Mac Titus was responsible for the four required saves in the first half. Auburn also had three corner kicks in the first half, Mississippi State had none.
The second half was more of the same for the first 35 minutes. The teams traded possessions that ended in goal kicks or throw-ins from the other team for most of the second half.
The game's only goal from Thatcher was the only exception.
The Tigers finished with 14 shots (six of them being on goal), seven fouls, 10 corner kicks and two offsides calls. Goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska only had to make one save for the Tigers in this one.
The Bulldogs ended up with seven shots (only one on goal), eight fouls, three corner kicks and no offsides calls. Titus made five saves for them in this match.
