After a 1-1 tie to the Vanderbilt Commodores, the Auburn Tigers(5-5-3, SEC: 1-3-1) took a trip to Lexington Kentucky, to take on the Kentucky Wildcats (7-5, SEC: 0-4.) Auburn following a blistering second half would grab their first win of SEC play 3-1.
Auburn would jump to a fast start with an Anna Haddock opener in the 16th minute, Anna Haddock would go on to be an anchor for the Aubrun offense throughout the game with three shots all of which were on Goal almost half of the team's shots on goal for the night.
“We played some really good soccer tonight, giving us some vital momentum that we need moving forward. I can’t wait for everyone to keep building and fighting for each other.” Auburn junior Anna Haddock said.
Kentucky’s Maggy Henshler would score to even the game back up at one a-piece in the 22nd minute. Hensler would be one of four wildcats that produced a shot on goal leading to Kentucky only having four shots on goal for the night.
Maddie Prohaska would continue her streak of no more than one goal given up in a game extending the streak to 13 games and ending the night with three saves.
Auburn would pick up scoring in the second half with a 66th-minute score by M.E. Craven that gave the Tigers the lead 2-1, Auburn would score again of a Kentucky own goal making the score 3-1 ending in the Tiger's first SEC victory.
“This was a huge result on the road for our team tonight,” Tigers head coach Karen Hoppa said. “I’m so proud of how they’ve continued to develop despite not getting the results. It’s great to see us put all the pieces together and earn a massive three points in the league standings.”
Auburn will return to the Auburn Soccer Complex this Sunday, October 9th at 2:00 pm to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs and attempt to make a two-game win streak in SEC play.
