Auburn Falls to Ole Miss in SEC Home Opener

The Auburn Tigers (4-2-4, 0-2-0 SEC) welcomed the No. 13 Ole Miss Rebels (8-0-2, 2-0-0 SEC) into the Auburn Soccer Complex this afternoon for their first home match SEC match of the 2022 season.

Auburn came into this contest after falling to the No. 20 Arkansas Razorbacks 1-0 on the rode in Fayetteville, AR on Thursday night.

Ole Miss won their last match as well, knocking off the Florida Gators 1-0 at home on Thursday night.

Neither team was able to put a shot in the back of the net in the first half. 

Auburn had five shots in the first half, three of them being on goal. Goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska only had to make one save. Auburn was the more disciplined team, only getting called for one foul. Auburn had two corner kicks and no offsides.

Ole Miss had three shots in the first half, only one was on-goal. Goalkeeper Ashley Orkus had to make three saves. The Rebels had four fouls called on them. They also had no corner kicks and no offsides.

Ole Miss defender Hailey Cloud received a yellow card for unsporting at the 50:34 mark of the game.

Rebels forward Marykate McGuire scored a goal at the 57:00 mark of the game. It was assisted by forward Mo O'Connor. It was McGuire's sixth goal and O'Connor's fifth assist of the season.

When asked about her thoughts on the game, Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa said, "It was heartbreaking. I thought we played pretty well."

The Tigers finished with 12 shots, five of them being on goal. Prohaska finished with three saves. Auburn also was called for four fouls, had four corner kicks, and no offsides.

Ole Miss finished with 10 shots, four of them being on goal. Orkus made five saves. The Rebels had nine fouls called on them, took two corner kicks, and were offsides once.

Auburn will be back in action this Friday night when the Vanderbilt Commodores come to town. The match will kick off at 6:30 P.M.
