The Auburn Tigers (4-1-4) fell to the Missouri Tigers (4-3-1) in a disappointing 1-0 loss Friday night to being Southeastern Conference play.
Coming off of a draw with Samford, the Tigers looked to get back to winning ways during its first conference matchup. Unfortunately for the 24th ranked Tigers that was not the case.
Missouri struck first in only the 33rd minute of the match curtesy of a shot by Kylie Dobbs shortly after coming off the bench. That goal totaled one of twelve total shots, eight of those on target, for Missouri on the night, compared to Auburn's mere four, with only one on target
Despite letting in a goal Maddie Prohaska had an impressive night saving seven out of eight shots tying her career fight. This is the most shots saved in an SEC match Prohaska has saved since her freshman year campaign.
In the second half the Tigers started to pick up steam behind a couple of chances by Sydney Thisdaux, Maddie Simpson, and Hailey Whitaker. Thisdaux managed to create the lone shot on target in the 74th minute.
In the end, it was not enough.
"Credit to Mizzou, they outplayed us tonight," Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa said. "We finally got momentum part of the way through the second half, but we just couldn't find the back of the net. We will go home and regroup for a tough task in Arkansas."
The match shaped up to be a physical one with both squads combining for 25 tackles. Sophomore Carly Thatcher was responsible for the lone Auburn yellow card of the night. On the opposite of the ball Missouri's Kylee Simmons was issued the only other yellow card of the night.
The Tigers fall to 0-1 in conference play this year and will look to bounce back with the second half of the season looming ahead.
Auburn will now travel to No. 14 Arkansas (5-2-1,0-1-0) on September 22nd to face off in a 6:00 p.m. matchup in search of the first SEC victory of the 2022 campaign, in what seems to be shaping up to be a must win game for the Tigers to get back on track after two straight winless games.
