The Auburn Tigers welcomed the Alabama State Hornets into Neville Arena tonight.
The Tigers are off to a hot start in 2022 as they swept the Georgia State Tournament in Atlanta this weekend. On Friday, they beat the Belmont Bruins 3-0 and the Georgia State Panthers 3-1. On Saturday, they beat the Marist Red Foxes 3-1.
The Hornets have gotten off to a rough start in 2022 as they lost all three of their games at the Cactus Classic in Tucson, AZ. On Friday, they lost to the New Mexico State Aggies 3-0 and the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds 3-2. On Saturday, they lost to the Arizona Wildcats 3-0.
Auburn won the first set 25-17. The Tigers had 12 kills and two aces. The Yellow Jackets had 10 kills and 0 aces. Both teams had two service errors.
Auburn took the second set 25-16. They had 13 kills and three aces in set two. Alabama State had 10 kills and two aces. Once again, both teams had two service errors.
Auburn took the third and final set 25-18 to finish off the sweep. They had 14 kills, two aces and one service error. Alabama State had nine kills, one ace and three service errors.
In total, the Tigers had 87 attacks, 39 kills, a .287 hitting percentage, 36 set assists, seven service aces, 33 digs, six blocks and one blocking error.
Alabama State had 89 attacks, 29 kills, a .157 hitting percentage, 26 set assists, seven service aces, 25 digs, five blocks and one blocking error.
The player of the game was freshman pin hitter Madison Scheer. Scheer had 12 kills, 20 attacks, a .500 hitting percentage, one dig, one block and one assisted block.
Auburn will be back in action on Tuesday night when they on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at home in Neville Arena.
