The Weeknd proves himself to be one of this generation’s premier superstars with the After Hours Til Dawn Tour, showing that his star power exceeds far past his radio presence and streaming numbers.
Originally, the After Hours Til Dawn tour was meant to feature The Weeknd along with fellow pop sensation Doja Cat. To the dismay of many, Doja Cat pulled out of all live performances due to personal complications. This left a gap that was filled by producer Mike Dean, and R&B singer Snoh Aelegra to open the show. Over the last few years, Doja Cat has proven herself to be a juggernaut in the pop scene, posting six Billboard Top 10 hits, and even reaching number one with Say So. Her departure led many to speculate that The Weeknd would not be able to fill out massive stadiums across the country. This could not be further from the truth. Having sold out multiple fully sized stadiums, The Weeknd continues this trend, selling out Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta for a dazzling spectacle of music and show.
His vocal presence is rivaled by few singers this turn of the century and a live show really facilitates this aspect of his performance. With crisp and clear vocals, The Weeknd’s powerful voice and other-worldly falsetto created a euphoric atmosphere inside Mercedes Benz Stadium's gigantic dome. His vocals particularly shine through on tracks like After Hours, Call Out My Name, and Hurricane.
The Weeknd has a discography with enough longevity that is rivaled by few popular artists operating today. His setlist spans all the way back to his “Wicked Games” project. With a decade of music to choose from, it would be difficult for The Weeknd to leave out some fan-favorite tracks, but the setlist was populated with many of his highest charting tracks along with some songs that did not have the charting power of his current hits.
