The No. 18 Auburn Tigers traveled up to Hoover, AL tonight to take on the Samford Bulldogs. Auburn came into this game after going two-for-two against the Alabama Crimson Tide at home at Plainsman Park last season. Samford came into this one after dropping two out of three games to The Citadel in Charleston, SC over the weekend.
Jordan Armstrong was the starter for Auburn, Cole Fryman was in that role for Samford. The Bulldogs got started quickly offensively, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Auburn bounced back in the top of the second inning, scoring five. The Tigers added on three more in the top of the eighth inning. Samford’s Kaden Drier hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, but it did not get enough momentum going for the Bulldogs to catch up.
Auburn’s biggest performances came from Kason Howell and Nate LaRue. Howell went 2-4 with one RBI and scored twice. LaRue went 2-5, driving in three runs and scored once.
Auburn will be back in action this weekend as they travel up to Lexington, KY for a three-game set with the Kentucky Wildcats to close out the regular season.
