Florida indie-rockers Flipturn hit the stage at The Masquerade for their own sold-out Shaky Knees Late Night Show.
Flipturn is Dillon Basse (lead vocals, guitar), Tristan Duncan (lead guitar), Madeline Jarman (bass), Mitch Fountain (synth), and Devon VonBalson (drums). The quintet has been on a steady rise since 2015, releasing two EPs, a studio album, and opening for acts like Mt. Joy and Rainbow Kitten Surprise in recent memory.
Mix modern folk, indie rock, and a touch of punk energy into a bag, shake it up, swirl it around, and out you get Flipturn. These rising stars in the indie space have been catching listeners ears for good reason, especially surrounding their live shows. I cannot tell you how many times I've been asked about their concerts or been recommended to go to one. Let me tell you, there is a reason. The band is electric live, combining soft smoldering lyricism into huge swells that stay as catchy as they do is a feat of musical engineering.
Flipturn's performance was captivating. From their soft yet fully present bass groove, smashing drums, and slick guitar licks, they know their way around their instruments. Stand out songs to me were "Chicago" and "Nickel." "Chicago"'s singalong chorus and inspirationally relatable lyrics has an ability to fully capture the audience. "Nickel" on the hand ended the night with an incredible swell, with a full build up the left fans clamoring for more.
From their latest single "Playground" to old favorites "Hippies" and "August," Flipturn delivered on the night. With a couple of unreleased songs sprinkled in and a ton of energy, this was a stellar setlist.
