The Regrettes put on a show you'll surely regret missing.
Touring in support of their new album, Further Joy, The Regrettes are on top of their game. The L.A. indie rockers have been making waves in the alternative space since they broke out in 2017. Their album, released on April 8th, marked their first LP since 2019's How Do You Love?
The band is made up of Lydia Night (lead vocals, guitar), Genessa Gariano (lead guitar, vocals), Brooke Dickson (bass, keys, vocals), and Drew Thomsen (drums). A touring musician joined the band on keys and guitar.
Too punk to be pop, too pop to be punk. The Regrettes are paving their own path and it couldn't be better live. Managing to straddle the line along all different alternative styles, The Regrettes sound is high energy, catchy, and just plain fun, while retaining the spirit of Riot Grrrl and feminist protest. Their subtle wit and often times casual remarks on takes like love, political conflict, and women's rights are intertwined with slick guitars, groovy bass, and tight drumming.
Without a doubt some talented musicians, Lydia and company find no trouble in the 550 cap club. With a wide range of sounds, the quartet had you go from dancing to moshing in a single song. Despite the band being very loud (in the best way), they were almost drowned out by their die-hard fans screaming along to every note.
While the band may have drifted away from their punk roots, they certainly haven't been uprooted. During their song "Dress Up" Lydia split the pit, and if you've ever been to a punk/metal show you know what happened next. The, admittedly more dance-driven than fighting and shoving, wall of death that ensued got the crowd going crazy early on in the night.
From the fiery doo-wop laced "Seashore" to the slick and poppy "Barely on My Mind," The Regrettes have it on lock. Through in a cover of Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" and you're in for a treat. With 21 songs on the setlist, there's not much room to complain about a favorite song being skipped.

I highly recommend catching this group live. The Regrettes are still fresh enough for you to hop on the bus early, but they've also got plenty of experience on stage. Their electric yet intimate performance will stick in my mind for a long, long time.
