Auburn defense makes a difference in 65-60 victory over No. 21 Georgia

Coming into the game with a five-game losing streak, Auburn Women’s Basketball team came into Auburn Arena to face the No. 21 team in the nation in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry against Georgia. With a fantastic defensive effort in the fourth period and great performances from Honesty Scott-Grayson and Aicha Coulibaly, the rivalry game end in a 65-60 Auburn Victory.

Georgia’s Jenna Staiti got the game started with a jumper from the paint, and soon after both teams went after each other and traded the lead. Auburn was led by Honesty Scott-Grayson with 23 points and Georgia was led Jenna Staiti with 18 points, and because of a last second free throw by Georgia Reigan Richardson, the score was 33-30 in Georgia’s favor at half time.

Throughout the third quarter Georgia mostly dominated the third period, but Georgia’s fortune would change when at the seven minute and 16 second mark Georgia’s Jenna Staiti made a layup that would end up being Georgia’s last points of the game. Auburn would then go on an 11-point run that would include scoring from Auburn’s Aicha Couilbaly that helped her have a day with 19 points and eight rebounds. As the dust settled after the final buzzer it was Auburn winning 65-60.

Auburn will be looking to carry this momentum into their next game against Ole Miss as it is not only there next to last game before the SEC tournament but it will also be Auburn’s senior night on February 24th on 7:00 p.m.
