David Shaw, frontman for NOLA rock band The Revivalists, takes on Atlanta on his debut solo tour.
David Shaw's signature rasp over blues and roots instrumentals came to life last night. His experience commanding a stage was on full display as he rocked his was across the entirety of the stage, electrifying the crowd.
Supporting Shaw in Atlanta was Austin native Mobley. A weird pairing with Shaw, Mobley uses looping to create an alternative rock soundscape with elements of pop, electronic, and psychedelic. He was absolutely a crowd pleaser though, with fans cheering him to play an encore.
Atlanta based non-profit Songs For Kids performed a song with two of their students before Shaw's set. The group focuses on giving music lessons to children with illnesses, injuries, and disabilities. You can find their website here. The group is also part of David Shaw and The Revivalist's philanthropic umbrella fund Rev Causes, where they help support organizations like Songs For Kids improve their communities, health, and environment. You can find more on Rev Causes here.
A pandemic project, David Shaw started putting out singles for his debut album in 2020. Arriving last Spring, this tour was in support of the album, David Shaw.
While a 'solo' tour, Shaw brought an impressive backing band with him. Keys, bass, drums, and tow guitarists, it was certainly a rocking show. Jamming interludes really showed off the skills of all the performers.
Something special that comes with these smaller solo shows is the connection with the audience. David was able to chat and banter with the crowd, something that made the large Buckhead Theatre feel really intimate. This felt like a truly special show for the fans and Shaw alike.
Despite just putting out his first solo album, David still had plenty of music for the night. Singles "Shaken" and "Heavy Soul" made the cut, as did the rest of his album. Covers and new songs made up the rest of the setlist, which can be found below;
