AUBURN, AL — The Auburn Tigers (12-6-1) Soccer team was selected as the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament on Monday afternoon. As a top-16 seed in the tournament, the Tigers get to host the first round of the tournament against Samford (15-3-2) Friday at 5 p.m. at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
This year marks the 17th all-time NCAA Tournament bid for the Tigers, all of which have come in head coach Karen Hoppa’s 21 seasons.
Auburn all-time is 13-16-0 in the NCAA Tournament, including a 6-3-0 record at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
The Tigers will be hosting a first round game for their fifth consecutive tournament dating back to 2015.
For Samford, this is the Bulldogs sixth all-time tournament appearance, the last coming in the 2019 season. That year the Bulldogs also played an SEC opponent in the first round, losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks 3-0.
This will be the second meeting between the Tigers and Bulldogs this season, as the two teams opened up the season against one another back in August.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 first half lead, but Auburn roared back in the second half with two goals to win the match 2-1 on the road at Shauna Yelton Field for its first win of the 2021 season.
Auburn and Samford will take the field in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday evening, with kickoff set for 5:00 p.m. CT at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
The game will be broadcasted live on WEGL 91.1 FM and on weglfm.com, in conjunction with the Auburn Sports Network.
