Auburn's stellar start to the softball season continued this week with a sweep of the Auburn Invitational. The Tigers won five games in three days for the second week in a row, extending their win streak to ten after the last weekend series before conference play begins.
The invitational began with a Thursday standoff against Troy. The Tigers prevailed 8-1 after pouring on runs in the final four frames. On Friday, Auburn welcomed Southern Miss for what ended up being their closest games of the weekend. The Tigers fended off late-game rallies from the Golden Eagles twice to extend their win streak to eight.
The invitational rounded out with a Saturday doubleheader against Southeastern Louisiana. As with Troy, the Tigers left the Lions in the dust through a combined offensive effort. Overall, Auburn totaled six or more runs in four of the invitational's five games. 3B Lindsey Garcia led the team with 7 RBIs over the weekend.
Auburn's conference slate opens next weekend after a midweek game at Troy. The Tigers will leave home for the first time since February 21st, where they picked up their only loss of the season at South Carolina. In that game, the Tigers fell short after scoring 4 unanswered runs in the last three innings.
After that, Auburn will be back home for a three-game series with arch-rival Alabama, where they will put their home winning streak on the line in a crucial clash.
