Two Auburn women's soccer players were awarded SEC recognition after their big win against Georgia on Saturday. Olivia Candelino was named SEC Freshman of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal for the Tigers and Maddie Prohaska was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week for her fifth shutout of the season.
Candelino’s 62nd-minute goal was the game-changer in the intense matchup between the Tigers and the Dawgs. The freshman leads the team in scoring this spring with two goals in these first four matches. Goalkeeper Prohaska had five saves during the game, a couple of those after Auburn’s goal and critical to them getting the win. This shutout marked Prohaska’s 3rd shutout of the four games this season.
Head coach Karen Hoppa praised the two freshmen for their performance “We had a hard-fought victory against Georgia on Saturday, and Maddie’s defensive effort, as well as Olivia’s outstanding goal, were key performances in the game for us.”
This is the women's soccer team’s fourth and fifth SEC award this season.
The Tigers will play back-to-back on the road against Louisville on March 20 and against Alabama on March 27. Game time against Louisville is set for 4 p.m. CST.
