Auburn's 31-20 Loss to Texas A&M | Recap

The Auburn Tigers fall to No.5 Texas A&M Aggies on Senior Day at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

1st Quarter 0-7 A&M

On the first drive of the game, the fifth ranked Aggies marched 75-yards on 11 plays capped off by a touchdown reception to Jalen Wydermyer. Quarterback Kellen Mond recorded five first downs and completed all his passes. The previously ranked Tigers fizzled on their first drive of the game going three and out opting to punt on 4th&1. A depleted Auburn defense of last week struggled again early and has not been favored against ranked opponents this season. Early penalties for A&M propelled Bo Nix in his next possession lasting into the second quarter marching 79-yards before an incompletion to a wide open Eli Stove in the end zone.

2nd Quarter 10-14 A&M

Anders Carlson on a 39-yard field goal drilled his 14th of the season to start the scoring in the quarter. The Aggie offense moved the ball well again getting to the Auburn 11-yard line before a big 3rd&Goal stop from Zakoby McClain. Kicker Seth Small then pulled his 28-yard attempt to the left and left the score board as it was. A now reinvigorated Tiger offense marched 80-yards before Nix channeled his inner Harry Houdini avoiding three tackles and running it five yards for the Auburn lead. A&M bounced back quickly taking advantage to what looked to be Auburn’s prevent defense going 75-yards on only eight plays to reclaim the lead before halftime.

3rd Quarter 20-14 AU

Despite it being Senior day, the final football Saturday on the plains was calling for Bo Nix. After a slow start, the sophomore on the first possession of the second half rushed for another go ahead TD that capped his 9 play, 75-yard drive. Kevin Steele’s defense stepped up in a big way ending any hopes of an A&M score on their next two drives. Nix and company continued to move the chains and were able to scrap another three point on an Anders Carlson field goal their following possession. Things were looking good for the home team with all the momentum until Mond completed another 20-yard TD pass to his favorite receiver Jalen Wydermyer to reclaim the lead early in the fourth.

4th Quarter 31-20 A&M FINAL

The Aggies forced the Tigers to punt on the pursuing drive going three and out for their second time of the game. Going 77-yards already up by one, Mond and crew scored again on the four yard run from Ainias Smith. A&M then took control of the game and used up 5:32 of the clock kicking the 32-yard field goal to seal their first victory in the teams past four meetings.

Auburn falls to 5-4 on the season and travel to Mississippi State next week for their final game of the season. Texas A&M moves to 7-1 with hopes of a CFP berth if they can finish their 2020 campaign without a loss in the following couple weeks.
