Auburn, Ala. - Jan 8, 2020
Auburn beats Vanderbilt 83-79.
With the win tonight, this year's senior class becomes the most successful in the programs history. The 2020 senior class just earned its 89th win through four years. "It started with Austin Wiley, making the decision to come here," said Coach Bruce Pearl. "He could have gone anywhere in the country."
Seniors Austin Wiley, Danjel Purifoy and Anfernee McLemore played well on their big night, all of them scoring over double digits. The seniors seemed unaware of their accomplishment after the game. "I didn't know that," said Purifoy. "I'll celebrate it later though. We just got to keep winning."
This team not only has the record for most wins in a four year period, but they have a chance to set the record for most wins in a three and two year stretch. "We got a lot of work to do to get that," said Pearl.
This team is turning into a historic one for Auburn. The Tigers have started off the season 14-0, which is the second best start in program history. This is only the fifth time the Tigers have been ranked in the top 5 of the AP poll. The Tigers remain one of two unbeaten teams in the country and have proven they belong at the top. This senior class has a chance to pick up where last years senior left off and win a national championship.
